Art is a prism through which we view the world. We learn and communicate by creating, by making connections. This is the basis for Calhoun's fully integrated arts and academic program.
Beginning as early as the 3's and continuing through Upper School, students are continually engaged in interdisciplinary projects that involve the visual arts, storytelling (written & multimedia) music and performance. This experiential approach makes the learning process more engaging and in-depth; encourages creative problem-solving and risk-taking; and demonstrates the interconnectedness of knowledge across the superficial lines of academic disciplines.
In addition to integrating literary arts, visual arts and performing arts into all the academic disciplines (language arts, social studies, science, math, modern language, technology), art and music are part of the curriculum and co-curricular program in each division. By Middle and Upper School, a range of electives are offered in the visual and performing arts.
Reinforcing Calhoun's commitment to the arts, students are afforded the opportunity to attend an array of student productions as well as professional productions of concerts and documentary films, presented by Calhoun's Performing Arts Series.
