Held each year, the Benefit brings together parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty/staff and friends to celebrate the school and to raise vital funds which help to ensure that Calhoun remains a leader in progressive education. The 2016 Benefit was held on Friday, February 26, 2016, at Cipriani Wall Street.
This year, the Benefit will be put on-hold for a special Gala, happening on Friday, May 19, 2017 at The American Museum of Natural History, as part of the 19 for 19 Campaign for Calhoun.
Leadership Societies Dinner
Formerly known as The Beir Society Dinner, this annual dinner, held in the fall, is for Calhoun's Annual Fund leadership societies, The Beir Society ($2,500 or more) and new this year, The Steve Nelson Society ($10,000 or more).
Calhoun organizes a few events every year for current parents, grandparents, and alumnae to experience special exhibits and shows going on in New York City. Through private tours with expert guides, these cultural excursions connect us to our larger community in the city and remind us of Calhoun's mission to pursue learning in a dynamic and experiential way. In Fall 2015 we visited the Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life, at the New York Botanical Garden (Oct. 8) and the Frank Stella Retrospective at MOMA (Nov. 5). This year we head to Gracie Mansion for our most popular excursion yet: a private tour of the building and grounds of New York City's mayoral home (Oct. 18).
New Parents Reception
The Board of Trustees invites all new parents to a special welcome reception in mid-September.
State of the School with Steve Nelson
Guests of this event hear directly from Head of School, Steve Nelson, about how things are going at Calhoun including the wonderful achievements of the year, the financial status of the school, how we compare to our peer schools on a few key dynamics, and the opportunities and challenges Calhoun faces, as well as the plans to address them. Current parents, grandparents, alumnae/i and faculty/staff are welcome to attend.
The State of the School will be extra-special during this campaign year. Check back for more details in the coming months!
The Development & Alumnai Relations Office sponsors numerous activities for Calhoun graduates. See Alumni Events.
The Development Office hosts annual and special events throughout the year for grandparents of Calhoun students, some of which are described above. Communications about upcoming events are sent exclusively by email. Please subscribe by sending Calhoun your email address.
Grandparents and Special Friends Morning
Grandparents and special friends of our youngest students are invited to visit Little Calhoun and spend time in classes. This year's event will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 for preschool - 2nd graders.
Parents of Alumni
In addition to being invited to many of our annual events--including the Benefit and Performing Arts Series--Calhoun offered a special social event in 2015 to welcome back Calhoun parents whose children graduated in the classes of 2010 to 2015. Refreshments were provided by Chef Bobo in his newly-renovated space, with remarks by Head of School Steve Nelson, on the heels of his retirement announcement!
