A book club for Calhoun moms, launched last spring by LS74 parent and alumna Vanessa Raizberg-Shuster '99 (P '31), begins its new literary season on September 14 with a discussion of "Rules of Civility" by Amor Towles. New participants are welcome with RSVP.

Kick off the 2017-18 school year cheering for our Girls' Volleyball squads! The Girls' Varsity team and the Girls' JV Green team start their seasons off on Tues., Sept. 5, in home games against LREI. The Calhoun School, Barnard Library and St. Agnes Branch of the New York Public Library invite the public to a discussion of "The Autobiography of Malcolm X (As Told to Alex Haley)" on June 29, 6-8pm, at the St. Agnes Branch of the NYPL. Open to rising 8th-12th grade players, the Summer Volleyball Clinics are being hosted and run by Calhoun's varsity coaching staff, beginning June 26 and continuing through August 18.Sessions are held each week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Three groups of Calhoun students will experience a trip to remember this month: Upper School French students head to Bordeaux, France; eighth grade Mandarin students will travel to China; and eighth grade Spanish students are heading to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Safe travels!

The Calhoun community is invited to the sixth grade's second annual Call to Action Demonstration on Mon., June 5, from 12-3pm. The event will feature a guest speaker as well as student speeches and presentations focused on such issues such as racism, women's rights, immigration, climate change, Standing Rock, and equal pay. Participants should assemble in front of Calhoun (81st Street) at noon.

Upper School science teacher John Roeder was accepted to participate in this summer's Computational Modeling in Physics First development workshop, which is being held in New York City, 31 July-18 August 2017. John is one of the pioneers of the Physics First movement in science education,
For the second year in a row, the Middle School Baseball team finished its season with an undefeated record and the NYCAL League Championship title! The Cougars clinched the championship on Wed., May 31, after defeating St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's 10-4.
