Fall Sports Highlights: Soccer Makes History, Volleyball Reigns as Champs!

It was an amazing start to the year for Calhoun sports! From seizing the league championship to making history in the playoffs, this was a fall sports season to remember.

Girls' Varsity Volleyball

The team finished with an undefeated 10-0 record, securing the NYCAL League Championship and the #1 seed in the NYCAL tournament. With a dominant 3-0 win in the final, the Cougars brought home the NYCAL Tournament Championship and ended the year with dual championships. With yet another championship year in the books, the team extends its run to 12 years in a row winning either the league or the tournament championship!

The Girls' Varsity Volleyball team will now head to the NYSAIS State Tournament. Check the Athletics Calendar for the states competition schedule.

Varsity Cross Country

The runners consistently beat their personal records meet after meet, securing a first-place team finish during a mid-season meet which helped earn them an overall second-place finish this season in the NYCAL League. The team took on the famed Van Cortlandt Park cross country course on Tues., Oct 22, at the NYCAL Championship Meet, finishing in third place.

Six Cougar runners will compete at the NYSAIS State Championship Meet on Sun., Nov. 3, at Van Cortland Park.

Girls' Varsity Soccer

With a 3-1-2 record, the Girls' Varsity Soccer team finished in third place in the NYCAL League, and made history by earning the team's first appearance in the post-season playoffs. The team fought hard against Grace Church in the NYCAL tournament semifinal on Mon., Oct. 21, coming back from a 0-2 deficit to eventually win the game 4-3! Taking on the #1 ranked Columbia Prep in the finals, the team fought hard throughout the match, but went down 4-1 late in the game to finish in second place in the NYCAL tournament.

Boys' Varsity Soccer

The Boys' Varsity Soccer team finished the regular season with a big win against Loyola, securing the team a spot in the playoffs. The Cougars finished the season in third place, matching the team up against the #2 seeded LFNY in the post-season semifinal game. The Cougars showed grit and resilience, but ultimately lost 1-3 in this game, ending their season short of their championship goal. This was the first time the Boys' Varsity Soccer team had earned a spot in the NYCAL playoffs in over 10 years, showing the growth and competitive nature of this squad.

Girls' JV Grey Volleyball

With another undefeated season for the Girls' JV Grey Volleyball team, they are now on a three-season undefeated streak! The team won both the regular-season NYCAL League Championship and the post-season NYCAL Tournament Championship.
