Third Graders Learn Environmental Science By Doing

As part of their STEAM class, third graders are learning about environmental science through hands-on exploration and gardening on the 81st Street Green Roof and third floor terrace. This week, the students were joined by Hannah Scarritt-Selman, Middle School Coordinator, 6th Grade Dean and plant enthusiast. Hannah showed the class what's growing at Calhoun, taught them about weeding and composting, and explained the process of seed germination. They also practiced their observation and inquiry skills by discussing what they noticed and had questions about in the gardens. Their observations will continue to be integrated into their environmental science studies throughout the year.
