Upper Schoolers Win Big at Science Olympiad Competition!

Calhoun Upper School students finished in the top ten out of 60+ schools in three events in this year’s NYC Regional Science Olympiad!

Calhoun put together two teams for the regional competition, held on February 2, at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens. The students competed in over a dozen events, and finished in the top 10 in three separate events—medaling twice in one event.

The Medalists were:

  • Boomilever Building Challenge: 2nd Place — Evan Changar ’20 & Oscar Llodra '20
  • Boomilever Building Challenge: 9th Place — Will Deckelbaum ’20, Emilka Jansen ’20 & Grace Peters ’20
  • Mousetrap Car Building Challenge: 3rd Place — Liam Hade ’21 & Casimir Hixon ‘21
  • Write It, Do It Team Challenge — Lucas Chapman ’19 & Reuben Solnick ‘19

The two teams were coached by Upper School science teachers Hadda Ait Oukdim-Conte and Naomi Choodnovskiy, and Middle School science teacher Alba Polsley.

The Cougars will be represented once again by the Middle School in the NYC Regional Science Olympiad, held on March 2, at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, Queens.
