1st Grade Community & Relationship Building

In the beginning of each school year, teachers guide their class in creating a “cluster contract” that outlines guidelines for how the group will interact. Group and partner work are frequently integrated into the first-grade classroom, and classes also engage in conversations about the communities and neighborhoods we live and work in. 

Activities that support development:

  • The naming of clusters and creation of “cluster contracts”
  • Identity study: looking at physical characteristics, culture, ethnicity, family traditions, food, etc.
  • Pocket People project
