1st Grade Science
First grade students visit Calhoun’s Discovery Lab, which offers a STEAM-based program of both independent and collaborative activities on topics such as:
- Recycling
- Machines and design (an in-depth look at the building of homes)
- Farming and food (plant growth, agricultural technology, packaging and transport)
First grade classes also practice scientific observation through seasonal visits to Central Park, where they sketch a Tupelo tree, study the parts of a tree, and learn about biological processes such as the decomposition of fall leaves.
