1st Grade Social-Emotional Learning
In first grade, teachers create learning opportunities that help children see beyond themselves, take accountability for their actions, and understand that they are part of a larger community. Through the modeling of behavior, reading of books and celebration of similarities and differences, children build compassion and empathy for others, confidence and autonomy, and a sense of justice and kindness.
Activities that support development:
- Identity studies
- Changemaker studies
- Monthly heritage studies
- Individual and group conversations to address classroom issues and reiterate group goals
