3rd Grade Language Arts

Third graders take Humanities, an interdisciplinary course combining language arts and social studies that allows students to strengthen essential skills while delving deeper into the subjects.

Both reading and writing are used as a lens through which to explore the human experience. An important goal in third grade is to build students’ reading stamina and independence. Students engage in a word study to gain an understanding of the structures and patterns that are essential to reading and writing. They begin to write more independently, gradually taking on longer writing projects including note taking, opinion writing, personal narrative and nonfiction.
