STEAM

Kindergarten students visit Calhoun’s Lower School Discovery Lab to engage in stimulating hands-on projects that integrate the STEAM disciplines – science, technology, engineering, art and math. Examples of thematic units include:

Simple machines – Becoming familiar with ramps, screws, pulleys, wheels, axles, levers and wedges. Creating intricate and functional machine models.

Chemical reactions – Creating dough and putty, examining the properties of solids, liquids and gases; and working with appropriate powders and chemicals to witness the changes that occur when they are combined. A favorite project is always the building of volcanoes!
