Fifth grade combines English and social studies into one interdisciplinary subject area.

Students work on literacy, reading and writing; continue to develop their reading fluencies as they engage with different types of texts; and are asked to analyze texts. They also look at the early history of America, democracy, civics and immigration. The class is discussion-driven and project-based, with students engaging in hands-on assignments such as the writing of their own legislation, or the creation of their own books.
