Lower School—Early Childhood

 


Alison Rothschild ‘85, Director of Lower School—Early Childhood

Alison is responsible for day-to-day operations and management of the Lower School - Early Childhood division (3's-2nd grade), including supervision of all personnel, oversight of curriculum and programs, and student and parent communications. 

Alison has a BA from Skidmore College and a master’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She is also a Calhoun alum and has been working as an educator at Calhoun for more than 30 years. 

 


Alison Leveque, Lower School—Early Childhood Learning Specialist

Alison provides educational support to students in the Lower School—Early Childhood division.

Prior to Calhoun, Alison worked at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School as a learning specialist, a first grade and kindergarten classroom teacher. She has a Ph.D. from Fordham University and has always been passionate about finding ways to support all students.
 


Lower School—Elementary

 


Debra Jeffreys-Glass, Director of Lower School—Elementary

Debra is responsible for day-to-day operations and management of the Lower School - Elementary division (grades 3-5), including supervision of all personnel, oversight of curriculum and programs, and student and parent communications. 

Before joining Calhoun, Debra was the assistant principal of the lower school at Little Red School House & Elisabeth Irwin High School (LREI). Prior to that she was a kindergarten and fourth grade teacher. She has a BA in radio, television and film from Temple University, a master's degree in early childhood and elementary education from Bank Street, and a master’s in private school leadership from Teachers College.

 


Liz Mavis, Lower School—Elementary Learning Specialist

Liz provides educational support to students in the Lower School—Elementary division.

Liz has a BA in sociology/anthropology from Colgate University and an MS in education from the City University of New York, City College. Prior to joining Calhoun, she was an elementary teacher and a literacy staff developer with the NYC Department of Education.
 

 


Lauren Feiden, Lower School Counselor

Lauren is responsible for facilitating the support and guidance of students, families and teachers in the Lower School—Early Childhood and Elementary divisions.

Lauren is a clinical psychologist specialized in working with young children and their families, and is formally trained and certified in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Lauren has experience working in community mental health centers, private practice, and schools. 
 


Metropolitan Montessori School

Karina Cruz is the Head of Children's House at the Metropolitan Montessori School (MMS). In fall 2023, through our recent merger with Metropolitan Montessori School, we will begin offering the choice of two tracks for children in preschool through 3rd grade: Open Inquiry and MMS@Calhoun: Montessori. Jody Trimm is the Head of Elementary at the Metropolitan Montessori School (MMS).
