meet the middle school leadership team

 


Andrea Solomon-Gutierrez, Middle School Director

Andrea is responsible for day-to-day operations and management of the Middle School, including supervision of all personnel, oversight of curriculum and programs, and student and parent communications. 

Prior to stepping into the role of Middle School Director, Andrea was Assistant Director to the Middle School and taught social studies. Before Calhoun she taught for many years in New York City public schools. She has a BA in sociology from Syracuse University and an MA in education from the City College of New York.

 


Nayantara Mhatre, assistant director of the Middle School

Nayantara is responsible for administering, developing and supervising all aspects of student life in the Middle School division.

Nayantara has a master's in educational leadership and museum education from the Bank Street College of Education and a BA in art history from Tufts University. Prior to Calhoun, she served as diversity and social studies coordinator at Ethical Culture Fieldston School.

 


Julie Torres, Academic Dean, Grades 6-12

Julie coordinates the implementation and alignment of our academic program in the Middle and Upper School divisions.

Julie has over two decades of experience in education. She has her BA in political science from Barnard, a master's in secondary science education from Teachers College, and an Ed.D in education leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Calhoun, Julie was assistant principal at Schreiber High School in Port Washington, NY. 

 


rebecca rosario, middle school counselor

Rebecca is responsible for facilitating the support and guidance of students, families and teachers in the Middle School division.

Rebecca holds a BA in sociology from the College of Mount Saint Vincent and an M.Ed in school counseling from Hunter College. She loves to bake and, fun fact, when she was in middle school, she performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with her chorus!

 


dana marra, learning support coordinator

Dana provides educational support to students in the Middle School division. 

Dana brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and learning specialist. She has a master’s in adolescent special education from Hunter College and a bachelor's of arts in English literature from NYU.
