We encourage you to get to know us by joining us at one of our many admissions events. Understanding that each family has a unique schedule, we offer a variety of in-person and virtual opportunities to allow families to learn more about Calhoun.

Apply online via the Calhoun application portal. Once you create an account, you will be able to access your application and see updates regarding your application steps.

Note on age cutoffs for applicants to preschool and kindergarten:

• Young 3’s - Students must be two years and eight months by September 1
• 3’s - Students must be three-years-old by September 1
• 4’s - Students must be four-years-old by September 1
• Kindergarten - Students must be five-years-old by by September 1

Using your application login, directly schedule an appointment for your child’s interview with Calhoun Admissions. All applicants for Lower School will have virtual visits while Middle School and Upper School applicants will have virtual interviews via Zoom. 

Middle and Upper School Applicant Families are required to complete their Parent and Student Questionnaires before scheduling their appointments.

In addition, all families are asked to schedule a parent/guardian conversation, which allows us to learn more about your child while also answering any individual questions you may have about Calhoun. Parent/guardian conversations will take place via Zoom.

In addition to getting to know your child through their interactions with our team, we gather additional information from their current teachers to gain insight into who they are as students and individuals. The documentation required is different depending on the grade your child is applying to; details about which documents are required will be displayed via your online application.

At Calhoun, we understand that standardized testing is not the only measure of a child’s ability, and therefore we consider test results as only one piece of a child’s application. Students applying for our Upper School program can take either the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) or SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test).

We follow the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) admissions notification and reply dates. All Calhoun admissions decisions will be communicated electronically according to the specified ISAAGNY dates.

If a child is admitted to Calhoun and a family chooses to enroll, we will require a signed enrollment contract and deposit by the ISAAGNY reply deadline.
