The food program at Calhoun is more than just the way we nourish our students and employees. It is also an integral part of the school's educational program — a further expression of our progressive philosophy that learning extends beyond our classrooms to encompass our physical space, our relationships among one another, and all activities during the school day.

Calhoun's Nut Policy
The Calhoun School is a “nut aware” school, committed to providing a safe environment for all members of its community. This means that we do not knowingly bring to school or serve/distribute any nut products. The school expects parents/guardians, students and all staff to be aware of this policy and to practice the guidelines listed below:
- The Calhoun School does not knowingly serve or use any nut products in our Commons/dining area. Kitchen ingredients with labels are checked to ensure they do not contain nuts or nut products. We are very diligent about checking, but please be aware that not all bulk items are labeled. The school follows the list of peanut and tree nuts provided by the FDA; however we do make an exception for coconut products which are used in our kitchen. Any food item containing coconut will have an allergen label attached.
- All food brought into the building must be peanut and tree nut free. This includes after school snacks and lunches brought to school for field trips. It also includes foods brought in for celebrations, class projects and birthday parties. Please read the food labels on all packaged food items.
- Parents/guardians, students and staff may not distribute any food or candy in school that contains peanuts or tree nut products.
Parents/guardians must submit an allergy action plan completed and signed by the medical provider for students with any allergy. This plan must be uploaded into the Magnus portal.
