Calhoun Summer Music Camp
This 3-day camp is for woodwind, brass and string players with at least one year of playing experience. Campers will have opportunities to play in large and small ensembles, compose original music, study the art of conducting, and more. Space is limited to 15 winds/brass and 15 strings campers.
2019 Program Details
Campers: for rising 6th-11th graders; campers should have played their instrument at least one year.
Enrollment: Limited to 15 strings and 15 winds/brass campers.
Program Dates: June 12-14, 2019
Schedule: Wednesday-Friday, 9am to 3pm
Other: Campers bring lunch, drinks & snacks from home (nut-free, only)
Tuition: $450; $100 non-refundable deposit required upon registration; cancellations after May 1 will result in forfeiture of tuition.
Location: The Calhoun School, 81st St, 433 West End Avenue @ 81st Street.
Artistic Director (strings)
Luke Cissell (Princeton University) is a New York Philharmonic Very Young Composers teaching artist and has been on faculty at Calhoun since 2003. A composer and multi-instrumentalist, he has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and the U.S. including Carnegie Hall, CBGB, Radio City Music Hall, and Lincoln Center. Cissell has released seven studio albums on his own label; his recent String Quintet was named a WRTI Top Ten Release of the Year.
Artistic Director (winds/brass)
Ben Baron (D.M.A. Manhattan School of Music, MM Yale University) is an active performer and educator in New York City. On the faculty of C.U.N.Y. as well as Calhoun, Ben has performed with the New York Pops, American Composer's Orchestra, American Ballet Theater, London Winds, and on multiple Broadway productions.
