After School Program

Learning beyond the school day

When the school day ends, many Calhoun students in 3's through 8th grade engage in creative, recreational and educational activities as part of our dynamic After School Program (ASP). Through experiential learning opportunities and consistent care, students explore and thrive in a supportive and fun setting. ASP encompasses age-appropriate enrichment classes, as well as an extended day program that serves 3's through 4th grade at 85th Street, and 5th through 8th grades at 81st Street. Cub Club (3's-4th) and Homework Help (5th-8th) offer daily opportunities to create art, work on homework and engage in indoor and outdoor play. Drop-in care is available.

We offer extended care for all students through 6pm. Early drop-off is offered for all grade levels and is included in the price of tuition.

"Students clamor to participate in ASP to connect with friends and pursue passions. Our child loves ASP so much she doesn’t want to leave when it’s time to go home.”

Calhoun Parent

ASP@85 for 3’s-4th Graders

Classes take place at Calhoun's 85th Street Lower School building.

A wide range of activities and classes are offered each semester, including beginner chess, performing and visual arts, sports, STEAM classes, and Cub Club (which offers a variety of activities). Class schedules and offerings change each semester, though many favorites continue.

ASP@85 classes are only open to Calhoun students in 3's-4th grade.

ASP@81 for 5th-8th Graders

Classes take place either in Calhoun's 81st Street building or at outside locations through affiliated programs.

In addition to its wide array of enrichment classes, ASP offers services to families that need extended after-school coverage for their children—whether on a regular basis or on an as-needed basis.

ASP classes are taught by expert educators, including many of our own teachers. Examples include art, chess, sports, yoga, and more!

After School Music

Calhoun's music department offers private lessons on many orchestral and jazz instruments (all levels of experience). Calhoun believes that making music strengthens our community while building a love and an appreciation for music.

Lessons and classes are taught by Calhoun faculty, all of whom are active performing musicians and experienced educators.

Lessons are available on many instruments, including flute, saxophone, trombone, violin, guitar, piano and more.
