3's-3rd Grade Enrichment Classes and Services
Calhoun will continue to follow the COVID guidelines outlined by the NYC Department of Health.
Classes run daily from 3:30-4:30pm (unless otherwise noted), with the option for Extended Day care until 6pm. Students will enjoy snack and open play from 2:30-3:30pm before classes begin.
Prices listed are for the full semester. Financial aid is available for ASP.

Open to 3's-3rd grade students, Cub Club offers a daily assortment of entertaining and educational activities for creative kids and working parents/guardians who are looking for supervised after-school care, 2:30-6pm. Our goal is to maintain an organized and fun environment where students can have a snack, make new friends, and experience a variety of fantastic afternoons.

Yoga
Grades 4's-K
Mondays; 3:30-4:30pm

Join us as we move, groove, dance, stretch, bend, twist and play yoga! We’ll play with partner poses, group poses, acro-yoga poses, invention of poses, and more! We’ll play yoga games and enjoy mindfulness activities (such as calming crafts and interesting tasks) to release energy, connect, laugh, focus, and calm or energize the body and brain. Each week there will be a fun yoga challenge (should you choose to take it…), too. Class ends in deep relaxation and kids will float home afterwards. Come play yoga!
Yoga mats will be provided. Please wear/bring comfortable clothes.
Martial Arts

Jewelry Making

This fun introduction to jewelry making will give your child a lot of beading, decorating and designing opportunities. We will be making a number of stylish pieces using an assortment of beads, charms and gemstones.

Harry Potter Club

Calling all aspiring witches and wizards! Join us for this immersive class inspired by Harry's wonderful wizarding world. Each week, students study a different Hogwarts subject and complete a magical project like learning spells, owl making, and more! Weaving improv and theater games together with arts and crafts, students use their imaginations and creativity to bring the magical series to life. By the end of the session, students will band together to solve a mystery and defeat a dark wizard using all that Harry Potter has taught them!

Crafternoon

In Crafternoon you will be able to play and explore a range of art materials. After a bit of socializing we will meet, discuss and implement our daily project. We look forward to painting, drawing, designing, collaging, sculpting and making play dough! At the end of the season we will make our own puppets, plan a scene from a story and put on a puppet show! Come join us- it will be a blast!
Beginning Chess

This class is for beginners to the game of chess. We will learn the rules of chess, how to move all the pieces, and how to attack and to defend. In addition, students will learn how to write down their chess moves, read chess notation and play with a chess clock. Students will develop the ability to think logically and efficiently while having a good time.

Students will experience Mandarin language and culture through this fun and interactive immersion class. Laurel Project learning occurs in a creative and participatory setting, using music, dance, drawing, creative movement, games, role play, physical props and storytelling. The children will be immersed in an interactive Mandarin-speaking environment: learning basic words and phrases as well as the grace and beauty of Chinese ribbon dance and crafts.

Instructor: Dazzling Discoveries
Here is your chance to play and build while practicing creative thinking and problem solving skills. Create houses, vehicles, creatures, bridges and so much more. Students will learn about engineering and physics while inventing and creating their own toys and projects. We will provide the materials and the instruction, children will provide the imagination.

We’ll deep dive into the ocean in this class that combines science, art and eco-consciousness. We’ll learn about creatures that live in the sea, artists who have been inspired by the ocean and ways we can help preserve the sea through 2D and 3D art projects.

Gear up for weekly Central Park EDventures, including elements of fort building, back-country survival and wilderness hide-and-seek – plus an original variety of awesome outdoor games and activities! Sledding, snow sculptures, etc. are also possibilities towards semester’s end (conditions permitting). This exhilarating outdoor program builds confidence, while encouraging teamwork, creativity and open-ended education. The possibilities? Endless. The experiences? Memorable. The FUN? Guaranteed!!!

Crazy Chemworks: Come and spark imaginative learning with some Mad chemistry. Watch as we combine elements and make them fizz, crackle and change color! We’ll delve into molecules and chemical reactions that produce light, gas and even slime. Some of the weekly topics in this session include: Lab Works, Junior Reactors, p.H. Phactor, Slime Time, The Glow Show, Dry Ice Capades, Icky Sticky Stuff, Chemistry Corner, The Mystery of Chem and Kitchen Chemistry.
Cosmic Art

Kids will take to the sky and explore outer space in this "out of this world" art class! We’ll learn about the planets by creating our own 3D solar system, pretend we’re astronauts as we build papier-mâché rocket ships and pretend we’re using the Webb telescope to create galaxy paintings.
