Private Music Lessons

Mariana Iranzi, Lower School music teacher, offers one-on-one instrumental lessons for students in Kindergarten-4th grade at 85th Street. Beginner and intermediate students will learn proper technique, basic music theory and reading in a wide range of musical styles. Students will explore with improvisation and composition, and will be encouraged to find their unique talents and develop an appreciation for music. Should you wish to enroll, the specific instruments taught and the location will be coordinated with Mariana upon registration.

Additionally, Nina Basescu will offer one-on-one lessons for violin and Jenny Xu will offer piano lessons.

Private lessons are available to K-4th grade students on the following instruments:

• Piano (Mariana Iranzi and Jenny Xu)
• Guitar/e-Guitar/Loog
• Ukulele
• Voice
• Percussion
• Violin (Nina Basescu)

Fee: $70 for 30 minutes

Families who receive financial assistance toward tuition are eligible to apply aid to the costs of after-school care. See the details of the policy.

Lesson fees will be billed to your Enrollment Portal once the number of lessons and the lesson day/time is arranged between the parent/guardian and the teacher; the bill is to be paid in full upon receipt. A $30 registration fee for each child, each semester, is required for all lessons.

Lessons are a semester-long commitment and we do not offer refunds.

Transportation

We are not able to transport LS children from ASP classes, or care for children in advance of, or following, their scheduled lesson. Please make arrangements to pick up your child after school or following ASP and accompany them to their assigned lesson location at the designated time as arranged with the child's music instructor. We are not able to make any exceptions to this policy.

These lessons will provide an enjoyable outlet for concentrated work and individual attention. Individual lessons promote skills, achievement and enthusiasm and are offered in 30-, 45-, and 60-minute increments.

Private lessons are available to MS and US students on the following instruments:

• Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Jazz Improvisation
• Violin, Cello, Bass
• Voice
• Acoustic & Electric Guitar
• Songwriting, Theory/Composition
• Trombone
• French Horn
• Piano

Fee: A lesson's length, the number of lessons and the start date determines the semester’s tuition, the charge for each lesson is:

• $70 for a 30 minute lesson
• $100 for a 45 minute lesson
• $130 for a 60 minute lesson

For 5th graders, we recommend that lessons be 30-minutes in length.

Instrument Rentals

The faculty will assist the student in arranging for the rental of an instrument, if required.

Cancellation Policy

For student absences, 2 individual lessons per semester may be rescheduled if the absence is due to student illness, religious observance, or extraordinary circumstances. There are no exceptions. The teacher must be notified 24-hours in advance for a religious observance or extraordinary circumstance. For day-of illnesses, please notify Kiwon Nahm by 8am on the day of the lesson or as soon as possible in the case of a departure during the school day. Otherwise, the teacher is not required to make-up the missed lesson. 

Dismissal

Middle School parents/guardians may give MS students permission to leave on their own. Once your lessons are scheduled, and if you choose to do so, you will be asked to send an email to let us know of your approval.
