Varsity Basketball in NYCAL Quarterfinals, Feb. 13

After an exhilarating finish to the Cougars' regular season, both the Boys' and the Girls' Varsity Basketball teams are heading to the NYCAL post-season tournaments, which begin with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, February 13! The Boys' Varsity team, which ended its season in fourth place, will host #5 seed Browning in the NYCAL quarterfinals at HOME. The game will begin at 4pm. The Girls' Varsity team, which finished in sixth place, will play #3 seed Loyola in the NYCAL quarterfinals, in an AWAY game on Tuesday, 4:30pm.

Calhoun parents and Upper School students are invited to join a one-time book club discussion of "Citizen," by Claudia Rankine. The discussion,hosted by Calhoun's Race Talk parent group, will be led by Lavern McDonald, Upper School Associate Director. Anyone interested is asked to read the book in advance, and join the discussion on Mon., Feb. 26, 6pm, in the 81st Street building, 7th floor. Food and beverages will be served. Childcare is available.

Updated Resources, New Audiobooks, and Fresh Look to Calhoun's Online Library!

You can find the new Online Library on the Calhoun Portal's "Library Resources" sidebar, and under the green "Calhoun Library Home Page" banner. This new resource can be used to search Calhoun's online catalog (81st Street Library only) for materials, find research guides and book lists, and stay up to date on library news. In addition, Calhoun is now using a new eBooks and Audiobooks service called OverDrive. The link to OverDrive can also be found in the Portal, under Library Resources.

Donate to Calhoun's Toy Drive, Through Dec. 11

Celebrate the holidays by giving back--and making a donation to Calhoun's annual Toy Drive for the young children at West End Residences. Donations of (unwrapped) new or gently used toys or books, suitable for infants and children up to seven years of age, can be dropped off in the lobbies of the 74th and 81st Street buildings until December 11. Batteries are also desperately needed!

Little Calhoun Raises $2,500 for Puerto Rico & St.Thomas

"Semillas de Monedas"--Little Calhoun's most recent disaster relief fundraising initiative --raised almost $2,500 in coins for the Rise and Read Program, a non-profit organization that supports children in Puerto Rico and St. Thomas.

Parents are invited to come to the kick-off of Calhoun's newest volunteer committee, the Calhoun Welcome Committee, on Monday, November 27, 8:30am, at the home of co-chair Cathy Deckelbaum. Formerly the New Family Liaison Committee, CWC is a volunteer opportunity for current parents who value Calhoun's deep sense of community and want to share it with families who are new to the school.
