8th Grade History Students Use the City as a Classroom

On a recent field trip, eighth graders used the city as a classroom to further their study of history. They explored the National Museum of the American Indian, followed by a walking tour of historic sites in Lower Manhattan. They visited outside of the NY Stock Exchange, Trinity Church, where Alexander Hamilton is buried, and the 9/11 Memorial Pools. The museum visit complemented what students have been learning in class about Native North American peoples and resistance to the United States' westward expansion; the walking tour allowed students to discover the history of the city.
