The joy and sense of community were palpable in the room when we came together for the Alumni of Color Network's third annual Evening of Celebration and Recognition. The event honors an employee who has made an impact on DEI efforts and the Calhoun community at large, and this year's award recipient was Lower School teacher Carl Bellamy. In a beautiful tribute to former teacher Lavern McDonald, the ACN leadership announced that the award would be renamed as The Lavern McDonald Award for Advocacy and Mentorship in Diversity. The evening also included recognition of Upper School students who serve on the Diversity and Accountability Board, performances and a keynote by Buihe Madu '95. Thank you to everyone, across generations, who celebrated with us.
