Students in Calhoun's fifth grade leadership class worked with the Upper School's community service class and Students in Action club to complete a painting project for Mott Haven Fridge, an organization that provides accessible, fresh food to communities around the Bronx. The work with Mott Haven, a new partner of Calhoun's, began at Homecoming's Spirit Celebration and continued in the weeks following. The project provided Upper School students an opportunity to talk to the fifth graders about Mott Haven and their role in fighting food insecurity. With the painting now complete, the refrigerators are set to be delivered to locations in the Bronx and the fifth grade will continue to spread the word to other classmates and family members.
Calhoun families are welcome to volunteer with Mott Haven on Saturday mornings. See the Mott Haven website to sign up for volunteer opportunities and learn about their variety of internships for US students.
