Now in its fourth year, the Alumni of Color Network Evening of Celebration features a special award recognition to honor employees who have made an impact on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging within the Calhoun community. We invite alumni, parents/guardians and students to submit a nomination for the recipient of this year's Lavern McDonald Award for Advocacy and Mentorship in Diversity. Please consider recognizing a community member who has had an impact on you and the broader Calhoun community by submitting a nomination. Past recipients were Lavern McDonald (2022), Alton Edwards (2023) and Carl Bellamy (2024).
DESCRIPTION:
The Lavern McDonald Award for Advocacy and Mentorship in Diversity honors Calhoun employees past or present who have consistently contributed to the promotion of understanding critical issues related to diversity and equity in teaching and the mentoring of students.
CRITERIA:
- Furthering Calhoun's DEI work and carrying out Calhoun's mission in this area that is central to our values
- Being an advocate and mentor for students with historically marginalized identities at Calhoun
- Supporting Calhoun's community of color at large, in their lives both in and outside of the school walls
