At the Virtual Annual Faculty Tea, on May 24, Lower School—Elementary Learning Specialist Liz Mavis was named this year's recipient of the Uhry/Thompson Award. 

The award was established in 1992 to recognizes a teacher who best exemplifies the spirit of two former Calhoun faculty members, Johanna Uhry and Barbara Thompson, characterized by mastery of academic discipline, the ability to make learning come alive, and a willingness to give meticulous attention to each student’s individual needs. The recipient is chosen yearly by the Head of School and the Division Directors.

Liz has taught at Calhoun since 2012, first teaching language arts and more recently becoming the Learning Specialist in Calhoun's Lower School—Elementary division.

"Liz’s gentle and student-centered teaching style has supported hundreds of early learners and their families at Calhoun," said Steve Solnick, Head of School, who presented the award during the virtual event. "In addition to being a master teacher, Liz has always been the first to volunteer to help others."

We are grateful for all of Liz's contributions to Calhoun. Congratulations, Liz!

The Annual Tea is hosted each year by the Parents Association to celebrate and thank Calhoun’s faculty and staff. In addition to the school’s Uhry/Thompson presentation, the PA awards tribute gifts to employees marking milestone anniversaries.
