Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Volleyball

The Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Volleyball team had a dominant season, ending as runner-up in the NYCAL championship match versus UNIS. Coach Leszek Stankiewicz considers the team's victory against Trevor Day in the semifinals a standout moment of the season. After losing to Trevor twice earlier in the fall, Calhoun – fueled by a crowd of fans – played "an excellent all-around match, showing great composure and executing our game plan with confidence," writes Coach Leszek. The victory led to their appearance in the conference finals, a major accomplishment on its own, and the team's first return in quite some time. "Playing in that environment, against that level of competition, gave them a sense of what it takes to compete for a championship — and the confidence that we can get back there again," reflects Coach Leszek. The leadership on display throughout the season, particularly from seniors Michelle W., Marin V., Lena B., and Ruthi L., was "exceptional." The group of seniors was empowered by the coaches and had the opportunity to take charge during practices and timeouts: setting up drills, leading huddles, and communicating effectively with their teammates. "Their leadership on and off the court was a huge reason for our team’s growth and success this season," explains Coach Leszek.

Varsity Boys/Non-Binary Students Soccer

The Varsity Boys/Non-Binary Students Soccer team, led by a group of seniors, showed considerable improvement throughout the season. Student-athletes worked together during practices on their dribbling, passing, and shooting skills – building a strong sense of teamwork along the way. Highlights of the season include a 1-1 tie against Loyola and a win against LREI during the team's Homecoming game. We thank our seniors for their contributions to the team and are looking ahead to next season!

Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Soccer

One of the highlights of the Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Soccer team's season was their Homecoming game against Birch Wathen Lenox. Cougar pride was on full display as they took the field, with Coach Meghan Chidsey writing, "it was a real standout in terms of team attitude and effort." Captains Stephanie O.-D. '26, Anna G. '26 and Asha L. '26 led well, and a special shout-out to Lila S. '27 and Maeve P. '26, who displayed real grit and a positive attitude throughout the whole season. Overall, the team had great chemistry and throughout the season grew their communication, trust, and passing.

Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Tennis

The Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Tennis team, led by Coach Mahika Rathod, had a stellar season on the court. One of the highlights was their match against UNIS in early October, where coaches from the other team commended our players for their noticeable improvement. Another honorable mention was the Leman match, where they won seven out of nine matches. Every single player on the team improved throughout the season, and Ripley J. '28 showed great toughness in her comebacks, stepped up to play first singles, and also led very well at the NYCAL championships. One of Coach Mahika's goals for the season was for the athletes to start strong and find their rhythm from the first game. Overall, they all built great mental toughness while learning to be present when playing a match.

Varsity Cross Country

Throughout the fall, the Varsity Cross Country team competed in a number of NYCAL races in Van Cortlandt Park. Calhoun sent a strong group of runners to compete at the NYCAL championship meet to close the season. We congratulate Simone A. '27 for coming in second in the 5000m run, followed by Jordynn W. '29 in fourth place! Garrett Y. '27 led the team well, and overall the student-athletes supported each other during practices and meets.

Junior Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Volleyball

The Junior Varsity Girls/Non-Binary Students Volleyball team grew tremendously in their knowledge of the game – identifying where to be on the court, grasping the pattern of rotations, and playing rallies with three touches more frequently. One moment that stands out to Coach Arisa Hirabayashi was the team's first game against Loyola halfway through the season, noting it was a turning point for them. As she writes, "The whole team was united in communication, and played well together. Despite it being a close game and a tough loss, student-athletes kept up a strong energy throughout all three sets." Sabrina K. '27 led the team well and she was a constant pillar for the team to lean on. "She is an excellent leader because she leads by example and encouragement...[her] humility on the court led others to be drawn into seeing her as a leader," shares Arisa.

Middle School 7/8 Soccer

The Middle School 7/8 Soccer team was led by Coach David Profitt. One of the highlights of the season was the team's 2-2 draw with Grace Church in September. After being down 2-0 at the half, the team rallied to score two goals to tie the game. There were a number of standout individual performances, including Leonardo S. ' 30 who hit four goals in seven games and Max G. '30's continual saves in the net! Luke B. '30, Leonardo S. ' 30, and Ferenc H. '31 were all great leaders. Coach David is most proud of how the team supported each other – "knowing that other teams had vastly more experience but still giving 100% and hugely reducing goals conceded."

Middle School 7/8 Girls/Non-Binary Students Volleyball

The Middle School 7/8 Girls/Non-Binary Students Volleyball team had a memorable season on the court. Highlights include their 2-1 win against St. Hilda's & St. Hugh's School in September, followed by their Homecoming match against Avenues. The team developed an effective rapport during practices and games, laying the foundation for continued progress in future seasons.

Middle School 5/6 Volleyball

The Middle School 5/6 Volleyball team, new this year, gives our younger student-athletes the chance to develop their skills in a competitive environment while building teamwork and school spirit. The large team was excited to come together to learn more about the sport and how to work together. In addition to practices, they competed in a number of scrimmages and hosted a match against Village Community School – playing in front of a supportive home crowd. We're excited to see this program continue to develop!
