Fifth Graders Combine Math & Baking in Hands-On Project
Ever wonder how math and baking go hand in hand? Our fifth graders baked up a delicious lesson to find out!
In this hands-on math project, our fifth graders applied their math skills in the real world by shopping for ingredients to bake banana bread. Students modified a recipe using fractions, decimals and multiplication to adjust ingredient amounts. Next, they visited an online grocery store and a local grocery store to compare prices and determine the best deal for their baking ingredients. After completing the math portion of the project, students worked collaboratively to bake the breads in small groups. The sweetest part? They shared the fruits of their labor with their teachers!
