Throughout the fall, fourth graders in Muna Atwa's science class practiced skills that scientists use, such as writing down their thoughts and observations, conducting tests by following a series of steps, and collecting and recording data. They put their skills to the test in their unit on rocks. Through research, hands-on activities, and testing samples, fourth graders learned about the properties of rocks, the difference between igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, as well as how the three types move through the rock cycle. They wrapped up their unit by going on a walking trip to the American Museum of Natural History to do some more rock observations!
