Junior English Class Takes Learning to Broadway with John Proctor is the Villain

Juniors in Lyda Ely's English class had the opportunity to see the new original play, John Proctor is the Villain, on Broadway. The show follows a group of high school students studying Arthur Miller's The Crucible, a play set during the Salem witch trialsMuch like the characters they watched on stage, Calhoun's eleventh graders read The Crucible earlier in the year – exploring the story's key themes and analyzing the main characters' actions and motivations. By watching the reimagining of Miller's play, students were able to examine the character of John Proctor through a modern lens. The trip to Broadway fit into juniors' ongoing work of reading and discussing texts that shed light on the political and social issues of their time.
