For their Expert Book project, kindergartners were challenged to think of a skill or area of expertise they wanted to share. Some chose to make "How To" books explaining how to perform skills and activities that bring them joy, like dancing, horseback riding and building with Legos. Others opted to make "I Know About" books to share information about areas of personal interest and passion, including basketball, outer space, natural disasters, and foraging for edible plants. Next, kindergartners worked together to break down and think about how to articulate the sequential steps and essential facts – using a storyboard graphic tool to help map ideas, inspiration, information and materials needed. After creating and illustrating the individual steps or facts, students sketched and painted the pages of their books. To complete the project, our young authors hosted a publishing party for their families!
