Lower School Field Trips Bring Learning to Life
Field trips in the Lower School help bring learning to life and are a great opportunity for Montessori and Open Inquiry students to come together and explore the world beyond the classroom. Here are a few examples of trips our Lower School students took:
- Montessori and Open Inquiry first graders traveled to the Bronx Zoo, where they saw all kinds of animals, rode the monorail, and went on a special ropes course. Open Inquiry students used the trip to conduct research for their mammal project.
- Montessori and Open Inquiry kindergartners had a great time hiking around the reservoir and picnicking at Black Rock Forest. They also visited the Harlem Grown Community Garden, where they watered freshly planted garden beds, tasted hydroponic lettuces, and petted hens.
- Our Montessori Lower Elementary students took a tour of the New York Botanical Garden's Haupt Conservatory. On the trip, they learned more about the rainforest biome, which connected with the Montessori culture curriculum's study of the Earth's different biomes.
- Our Montessori second and third graders visited the Met Museum’s Native American, Indian and European art galleries, as well as the newly opened 81st Street Studio for kids.
