In early March, a group of Middle Schoolers competed in the Science Olympiad, facing off against 25 other NYC independent and public schools. As Science Olympiad club advisor and Middle School science teacher Alba Polsley describes, Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of 23 team events in each division that cover scientific fields like genetics, earth science, chemistry and technology. For this year's competition, Middle Schoolers were joined by senior volunteers Tomas M. and Harrison Z, who have both been involved with the Science Olympiad since they were in Middle School and are now role models for younger students. Members of the Calhoun team had a blast cheering on their teammates and they excelled at their events – earning five top-10 finishes. Go Cougars!
