Second Graders Learn About Mapping

As part of their social studies lessons, students in both of Calhoun's second grade classrooms at 74th Street have started a unit on mapping. They began their exploration by learning about the various elements of a map, such as cardinal directions, a compass rose, coordinates and map keys. To reinforce what they've learned, students looked at different types of maps through videos and books, played games and even created their own maps. They also completed a “scoot” around the room to demonstrate and strengthen their understanding of the key mapping elements.
