While we were all unable to be together in person, Calhoun Radio began in the spring of 2020 as a Middle School lunchtime club, with the goal of bringing our Calhoun community together virtually and connecting through a love of music. Last year, the club expanded to include more student, faculty and staff DJs. We were proud to have featured student album releases, special themed shows, and a steady weekly roster of Middle School student DJs providing music booming from the Zoombots throughout the two buildings.
This year, Calhoun Radio continues as a club and as an elective for 7th and 8th grade students. In our elective, students produce playlists, podcasts, soundscapes and radio stories. We’ve introduced a portable sound mixer that allows students to engineer and record their own work as well as their peers’. Students are also working individually and collaboratively to edit their projects via Garageband and Bandlab, making sure that what they’re producing is authentically in their voice and engages the broader Calhoun community.
Beginning January 24, 2022, we invite you to tune in to our first broadcast. You’ll have two opportunities to tune in during the weekday: Broadcasts will air Monday-Friday, at 12pm and 3:30pm. Head to www.calhoun.org/radio to listen. In the near future, we’ll be expanding our listening hours from 11am-1pm and featuring work from all four divisions. We hope to bring the excitement of the classroom to a purely audio space.
Calhoun Radio is open to anyone in the community; we hope you will consider this as an open invitation to collaborate. If you have an idea for a project, a show, a playlist or something completely different, please reach out to email@example.com.
