US Students Build Community in Opening Trips & Activities

Grade trips and activities at the start of the school year are a key aspect of Calhoun's Upper School program. These experiences, whether they involve city excursions or classroom introspection, provide students with valuable opportunities to bond and build a supportive community before classes begin. Read more about each grade's activities below.

9th Grade

Ninth graders and their 14 senior Peer Leaders went on the annual overnight camping trip to YMCA Camp Mason. Students engaged in a wide range of team-building challenges and group activities – from canoeing to high ropes courses – that allowed them to establish a shared sense of camaraderie.

10th Grade

The tenth grade came together for a memorable team-building experience at High Exposure, where they engaged in activities that promoted collaboration and growth through movement and exploration. The next day, the grade visited the Mercer Labs Museum.

11th Grade

Eleventh graders enjoyed some friendly competition and bonding over bowling and arcade games to start the school year. The following day, students participated in a Junior Workshop session, where they had the opportunity to begin brainstorming ideas for their project in Mod 3. They ended the week with group activities and an ice cream social.

12th Grade

Seniors participated in activities led by their grade dean Ellen Kwon, grade representatives Beatrice and Tomas, and the College Counseling Office. The activities helped students to transition from summer to school, and encouraged them to reflect, bond, and get themselves into a healthy and productive mindset. They ended their opening session by launching the college application process in earnest.
