US Music Theory Students Compose Music Pieces in Digital Work Station

For their final project, students in Director of Performing Arts Jackie Martino's Music Theory class composed a piece of music by producing sounds together in a digital audio workstation. After picking a song to use as inspiration, students notated the chord progression in FLAT, a collaborative music notation platform. They then created an original track in Soundtrap – combining various inputs like piano roll, loops or live instruments. For one project, students Griffen A.-G. '26 and Maeve P. '26 used The Beatles song "Let It Be" and added in the sounds of a bonfire and a door opening and closing to enhance the ambience and overall auditory experience. The project challenged students to creatively bring together concepts they had been working on during the first mod.
