US Science of Food Course Explores How Senses Work Together
In the Upper School elective The Science of Food, students explored how all of the senses work together in the perception of flavor. In teams of two, one student tasted a food item while wearing a blindfold, headphones and plugging their nose, and the other student recorded their observations. It was surprising to discover how common flavors could become unrecognizable without relying on one's sense of smell, sight or hearing! Upper Schoolers will repeat the experiment at home and write up a lab report conveying their findings.
