US Theater Presents: Alice by Heart

Artwork by Mars L. '26

Set in the midst of World War II in 1941, teenager Alice Spencer seeks refuge from the chaos of air raids in London's underground tube station turned bomb shelter. Grappling with the impending loss of Alfred, her best friend who is suffering from tuberculosis, Alice attempts to escape the horrors of war through an impromptu performance of her beloved storybook, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The inhabitants of the shelter fall down the hole into a dark version of Wonderland where they embody various characters that reflect their struggles with grief, love, and the harsh realities of adulthood. Ultimately, Alice must confront her feelings and accept the painful truths of her life while finding hope amidst despair, as she learns what it means to grow up.
