US Theater Presents Into the Woods

For its spring musical production, Calhoun’s Upper School Theater presented Into the Woods. The show, one of Stephen Sondheim's most popular works, follows a baker and his wife as they go on a journey to reverse a witch's curse, encountering beloved storybook characters along the way. The cast and crew put on four performances of Into the Woods in the Mary Lea Johnson Performing Arts Center in late April.

"From the moment we learned we would be doing Into the Woods, the cast worked passionately to put on a magical performance," says Basma E. '23, who played Little Red. Jackson S. '23 played the Baker, and added that directorial guidance during rehearsals "helped us connect with and express our characters more and more until we could transform into the fairytale personalities that the Calhoun audience got to see." The show was Director of Music Jackie Martino's first at Calhoun; at its conclusion she was "most proud of the community we created and seeing the [students'] joy in the work."
