Middle School science courses are collaborative and project-based, as exemplified by a 7th grade lab exploring key physics concepts. After learning about the law of conservation of energy and kinetic and potential energy, students conducted an experiment to identify the relationship between height and speed on a roller coaster. Seventh graders observed a marble as it followed the roller coaster's path – describing its motion in terms of energy and the law of conservation of energy. The class used the lab as an opportunity to discuss the energy transformations that occur in different situations. This hands-on experience helped students deepen their understanding of classroom learning while building their scientific reasoning and teamwork skills.
